We might think that these foods are rich in proteins, but actually they are not!!
After your gym session, if you consume protein bars thinking that they are rich in proteins, then you might be wrong!! From repairing and building our body tissues to keeping our immune system healthy, proteins play a huge role in it. When we consume a low protein diet then here are more chances of us getting issues like muscle loss, skin problems etc. Therefore, we all must consume certain amounts of protein every day to avoid protein deficiency. There are few foods that we think are rich in proteins but actually they are not. These foods are Sattu: Many of us think that sattu is full of proteins but it is not. It must be taken into note that sattu has emerged as a super food and it is made from powdered chana dal. Bitter fact is that one teaspoon of sattu mixed with water would have just 5 to 7gms of protein. Mushrooms: Thinking that mushrooms have proteins, many of us consume this food. It is actually not. Truth is that 100gms of mushrooms have just 3gms of protein. Dal: Being the staple food for many, dal is being consumed in the majority of households in India. It has been brought out that one katori of dal has just 4gm to 5gm of proteins only. Peanuts/ Peanut butter: Persons who are trying to increase their intake of protein would consume peanuts and peanut butter. Fact is that these foods have protein but more fats only. Eating these foods would increase the calorie intake. Hence, we must be careful. Almonds: Normally, per day, many of us eat 5 to 6 almonds. This would not be enough to meet our daily requirement of protein. It has been brought out that 100ms of almonds has 21gms of protein. Not many would know that almonds are better sources of fats than proteins. Protein bars: Bitter fact is that protein bars are not rich in proteins (as we might think) but in sugars only. Therefore, please avoid consuming protein bars as they could lead to weight gain. Instead of protein bars, consuming protein powder could be good. Millets/quinoa: Important point is that 100gms servings of quinoa or millets would approximately just 13gms of protein. It is true that millets and quinoa would offer the same amount of protein as wheat.
